Went tree climbing around campus, then decided to try our hand at slacklining. It was really fun and they were really nice about letting me try a few times before I had to get back to studying :)
After staying up last night playing Zombies, it got me thinking that I should go prepare for a zombie apocalypse.
Went to the Center Mass shooting range in Vacaville because the Davis one is closed on Monday and Tuesday. It was really great, everyone very helpful and easy going. The woman behind the counter taught us how to load the clip. Another guy shooting taught me how to hold and stand with the gun. Ended up costing about $75 for 2 of us for 1.5 hours (includes gun and ear muff rentals, 100 rounds and use of range). Not something you can do a lot, but definitely a good skill to have.
WELCOME WEEK CHALLENGE
Basically, a ton of clubs give away free food during the first week of class. The challenge is to live only on free food for the whole week. Generally BBQs, pizza parties and ice cream socials are the most popular.
If you choose to participate, I would suggest going to Christian fellowships, they have the best/most food.
It isn’t an organized event so you don’t get anything except the satisfaction that you just saved yourself a ton of swipes that you can spend on snacks or making new friends!
Paintball Club gets lots of people together to play paintball, right here in Davis :)
Meet great people and then shoot them. Like I said in an earlier post, $40 for rentals and day pass, $15 for guys with equipment and $0 for girls.
Honestly, I’ve never gone out with these guys, I just sit in their facebook group and wish it was cooler out. haha, next quarter!
Mountain biking is so much fun and this is the time of year to do it! Rent a bike so you don’t destroy your own and ride downhill dodging roots and riding through creeks. It’s the most fun thing I’ve ever done.
Don’t let the picture fool you, this is one of the few flat areas we went on and the only time I felt safe taking out a camera.
Here’s a link to a place nearby…
They have something for everyone here. I did the UC Davis Triathlon (March), ridiculously fun. A friend of mine is the president for the Tri Team so let me know if you’d like a hook-up. They train all levels so don’t be intimidated and try it!
Went to Stanford this weekend. Very nice campus, every thing looks new, but feels old if you know what I mean. The architecture is all arches and turrets, while the stones are clean and light. A very different atmosphere than Davis with its multimillion dollar homes surrounding it and $57,000 tuition. Though there were a lot of bikers, much like here. It was my first time and I think it would be fun to go again during the school year. Only 2 hours from Davis.
On the way home from the regional park we stopped at Cache Creek Casino for the buffet. When we got our players’ card they gave each of us $25 to spend at the restaurants. Unfortunately the buffet was closed so we chose the cafe instead. The food was very good and we got 3 meals and drinks for our $50. Then we decided to hit the casino.
I immediately lost my money, but we made some of it back playing “Ghostbusters” <- fun :)
Had a good time, wish the golfing wasn’t $100 a round though. And each dollar you play, you only get .002 dollars back to spend in the gift store.
Went hiking in Cache Creek this week at the regional park. It was fun, about an hour and a half from Davis. Would also be great for kayaking/rafting and camping.
Though I’ll admit I prefer Tahoe/Yosemite/Sequoias. It’s a small park and the water is very dirty.
Red Hawk Casino
50 minutes away
The casino is really nice, has all the games and classy. Even if you don’t play much they still give you free slot play. Though it’s 21 plus to get the players’ card. And got to love the free drinks.
There’s a great arcade. The prizes are actually attainable and the machines don’t break down every other play. Play the dolphin show game, it’s my favorite ;)
Restaurants are delicious, award winning steak house and chinese restaurant. Pricey, but great for a date night. And if you play a lot, you can just get it comped!
UPDATE: A friend recently told me that if you go at 2:30 on a Friday (Fridays ONLY) and wait around til 3, they bring out the seafood buffet. This means you got in for the normal price ($10) and getting the seafood ($30). Also in the month of July if you have the players card they give you $5 off so $5 for $30 buffet. Not bad!
